Trust Fund Boosts Homeless Relief in Fiji with $20K Donation

The JP Bayly Trust has made a donation of $20,000 to Habitat for Humanity Fiji to assist with housing and community development projects. Trust chairman Digby Bossley expressed that this contribution is aimed at helping disadvantaged individuals in Fiji rebuild their lives, noting that many people are still living in tents or have lost their homes due to natural disasters, while others cannot afford to build new ones.

He emphasized that the lack of stable housing leads to various socioeconomic and health issues. “When the request came from Habitat Fiji for support with housing, we were more than happy to engage. Through their projects, people can find a sense of security and hopefully start to climb out of poverty,” Bossley stated.

Susan Naidu, the national director of Habitat for Humanity Fiji, highlighted the importance of the donation, especially for the Daulomani Home in Lautoka, which was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide temporary shelter for homeless individuals and families. The funds will be used to improve access to basic services such as electricity and necessary kitchen appliances, including refrigerators, freezers, and cooking stoves.

“This generous contribution from JP Bayly Trust encourages us to continue our mission of building homes, communities, and hope for Fiji’s most vulnerable,” Naidu said. “With every home we construct, we provide a foundation for families to live healthier, happier, and dignified lives.” Earlier in the year, Habitat for Humanity Fiji and the JP Bayly Trust signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance their collaboration and provide comprehensive support to marginalized communities.
