The JP Bayly Trust has made a donation of $20,000 to Habitat for Humanity Fiji, aimed at supporting housing and community development initiatives.
Digby Bossley, chairman of the Trust, emphasized that the donation is intended to assist disadvantaged Fijians in reconstructing their lives. He pointed out that many individuals in Fiji are still living in tents or have lost their homes due to natural disasters, while others cannot afford to build new homes. This instability has led to various socioeconomic and health-related issues.
“When the request came from Habitat Fiji for support with housing, we were eager to get involved, so that through their projects, people can achieve a sense of security and work towards breaking the cycle of poverty,” Bossley stated.
Susan Naidu, the national director of Habitat for Humanity Fiji, noted that the Daulomani Home in Lautoka, established during the COVID-19 pandemic, has been serving as temporary shelter for homeless individuals and families. She mentioned that the donation will help provide access to essential services, including electricity and kitchen supplies such as refrigerators, freezers, and cooking stoves.
“This generous contribution from JP Bayly Trust motivates us to persist in our mission of building homes, communities, and hope for Fiji’s most vulnerable people,” Naidu said. “With each home we build, we create a foundation for families to lead healthier, happier, and more dignified lives.”
Earlier this year, Habitat for Humanity Fiji and the JP Bayly Trust formalized their partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance collaboration and offer comprehensive support to marginalized communities.
