Problems at the Levuka mortuary continue to persist, with no clear timeline for when it will become fully functional again. Health Minister Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu informed Parliament yesterday that while donors are ready to assist, the full restoration of the morgue remains uncertain.
Opposition MP Parveen Kumar questioned Dr. Lalabalavu about the state of the hospital. The minister explained that one-third of the old hospital had been condemned due to damage, but assured that the remaining two-thirds were still intact and presently housing the ministry’s environmental health officers.
Dr. Lalabalavu revealed that donor support is available for the government’s efforts to rebuild the hospital infrastructure, including a new mortuary. He assured the Parliament that plans were in place to restore full functionality to the morgue facilities.
