Trouble Brewing Over Ownership of Namosi Development Company

The chief of Namosi, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua, has sought forgiveness from the province’s residents due to the lack of clear communication regarding the provincial company, Namosi Development Company Ltd (NDCL). Established in 1994, NDCL has been in operation for 30 years.

The company was originally intended to be owned by the province; however, it is currently held by only a few shareholders. This issue was raised during the provincial council meeting at the Pearl Resort, Pacific Harbour, last Thursday.

Minister of Housing and council member, Maciu Katamotu, inquired about the management and operations of the provincial company on behalf of concerned residents. He emphasized the desire for the company to be profitable and for residents to be informed if the company would be restructured to secure its ownership by the province. He also stressed the need for a prompt meeting to address the prevailing concerns.

Ratu Suliano shared that for 20 years, efforts were made to establish a committee or think tank to oversee the company’s operations, which was finally achieved last week. He mentioned that during his two-year detention at the Naboro Correctional Facility, he had been planning for the company’s future.

Currently, Ratu Suliano is the sole surviving shareholder among the original four. He indicated that an impending meeting will be held to bring in an auditor to present the company’s financial plans to the residents.
