A tropical disturbance designated as TD03F is currently situated northeast of Fiji, with its path taking it southeast towards Tonga. According to a bulletin released by the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 5:30 AM, a slow-moving trough of low pressure is affecting the region.
As a result of this disturbance, heavy rain alerts have been issued for the Central and Eastern Divisions, specifically in Southern Bua and Cakaudrove Province. The bulletin highlights that cloud and rain associated with the trough are impacting the southern and eastern parts of the Fiji islands.
Forecasts indicate that, by midnight tonight, occasional rain—potentially heavy at times, along with some thunderstorms—is expected in several areas. Specifically, regions such as greater Suva/Nausori-Tailevu Area, Coastal Serua-Namosi, interior Serua-Namosi, Naitasiri, Kadavu, and the nearby smaller islands, as well as Cakaudrove province, southern Bua, Lomaiviti, and Lau groups, may experience this weather.
The bulletin warns that rain is anticipated to become more frequent and intense later today, leading to concerns about flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas due to persistent heavy rainfall.
This situation underscores the importance of staying informed about weather conditions, especially for residents in susceptible areas, as timely awareness can help in precautionary measures to ensure safety.
With the community’s resilience and collaboration, it’s hopeful that any potential impact from the disturbance will be managed effectively, reinforcing the capacity for locals to adapt to unpredictable weather patterns.
