The adverse weather conditions have led to the premature end of the Primary Schools GIR Plus Festival at Bidesi Park in Laucala Bay, Suva. Oripa Lee, the coordinator for the Fiji Rugby Union’s Get Into Rugby Plus program, emphasized that the safety of the students was the top priority, which necessitated the early conclusion of the event.
Despite the unfortunate weather-related interruption, all participating schools received trophies, ensuring that no one left empty-handed. This was particularly meaningful for the rural schools that traveled long distances to participate in the festival. Each school had managed to complete at least one match before the cancellation, and they were presented with trophies before departing the venue.
This festival not only highlighted the commitment to youth sports but also fostered a sense of community among the participants. It’s encouraging to see that even amidst challenges, efforts were made to recognize the hard work and participation of all involved.
In summary, while the weather cut the festival short, it did not diminish the spirit of the event, as every school left with recognition for their efforts. This positive acknowledgment can serve as motivation for future competitions, highlighting resilience in the face of adversity.
