The Tritons Swimming Club from Suva aims to secure more medals at the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals taking place at the Damodar Aquatic Centre in Laucala. Coach Willie Elasia expressed confidence in his team, which comprises approximately 35 to 40 swimmers aged between 9 and 22.

While the team faces challenges like exams and school commitments, they are focused on maximizing their performance in the competition. Elasia stressed the importance of enjoying the experience while striving for success in the pool.

“The preparations have not been ideal due to exam season, and most of our swimmers are students. It’s not exactly what we had hoped for, but we have to work with what we have,” Elasia stated. “Our main goal is to win more medals for our team during these two days of competition. We have a young group, so we are focused on enjoying the competition and achieving more medals.”

Among the swimmers is Pacific Games gold medalist Hansel McCaig, who is also preparing for the World Aquatics Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary, in December. This competition serves as crucial training for him as he prepares for the international event.

Despite the rainy weather, Elasia noted that the competition has been characterized by enthusiasm and determination from all participants. “It’s wonderful to see so many young swimmers out there enjoying the competition. Even with the rain, they are smiling and making the most of it.”
