Tritons Swimming Club from Suva aims to secure additional medals at the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals taking place at the Damodar Aquatic Centre in Laucala. Coach Willie Elasia is optimistic about his team, which consists of around 35-40 swimmers aged between 9 and 22 years.

The team faces challenges due to exams and school commitments, yet they remain focused on making the most of the competition. Elasia highlighted the importance of enjoying the experience while aspiring for success in the pool.

“The preparation hasn’t been ideal as it’s exam time, and most of our swimmers are students. It’s not what we wanted, but we have to work with what we have,” Elasia stated. “Our main goal is to win more medals in this two-day competition. We have a young team, and we just want to enjoy the competition and achieve more medals.”

Pacific Games gold medallist Hansel McCaig is also part of the Triton Swimming Club, training for the World Aquatics Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary, this December. This competition provides him with essential training as he prepares for the international arena.

Elasia noted that despite the rainy conditions, the atmosphere remained positive and spirited among the participants. “It’s wonderful to see so many young swimmers out there enjoying the competition, and despite the rain, they are all smiling and making the most of it.”
