The Tribunal’s report concerning allegations against the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde, is set to be released following a thorough review by His Excellency, President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu. A three-member Tribunal, established under section 112 of Fiji’s Constitution, was tasked with investigating the claims, led by Justice Anare Tuilevuka and supported by Justices Chaitanya Lakshman and Samuela Qica.

The Tribunal concluded its inquiry and submitted its findings to the President on December 23. In a statement from the President’s Office, it was indicated that the President will examine the report, conduct necessary consultations, and seek advice on its contents. However, the process has experienced some delays due to several officials being on Christmas and New Year’s leave, with an assurance that all will resume following the holiday season.

The release of the report is mandated by section 112(6) of the Constitution, and the President has committed to making it public once it has been properly analyzed. Christopher Pryde has formally requested a copy of the report and advocates for its public disclosure, believing that if the findings indicate insufficient evidence of misbehavior, his suspension should be lifted, allowing for his return to the role of Director of Public Prosecutions.

This situation highlights the importance of transparency and due process in matters involving public officials, and as the New Year approaches, it is hopeful that clarity will be achieved soon for all parties involved.
