Trial Date Set in High-Profile Legal Battle Involving Former MP

The trial date for former MP Niko Nawaikula’s civil claim against former Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem has been set for next year. Mr. Nawaikula appeared in the High Court in Suva before Justice Usaia Ratuvili yesterday.

The case centers around Mr. Nawaikula’s assertion that Mr. Saneem’s decision to remove his name from the Electoral National Register of Voters was both wrongful and unlawful, which resulted in his parliamentary seat being declared vacant. He alleges that Mr. Saneem improperly and negligently exercised his constitutional and statutory powers.

The trial is scheduled to last three days, commencing on April 28 of the upcoming year.
