Tree Tumbles, Power Shatters: Central Division in Dark

The Central Division experienced a widespread power outage yesterday after a tree reportedly fell onto Energy Fiji Ltd’s (EFL) 132,000-volt transmission line in Waibau.

EFL’s CEO Hasmukh Patel stated that the disruption to power supply occurred around 2:28 PM. He noted that a tree was being cut in Waibau when it accidentally fell, impacting the transmission line that facilitates the supply of electricity from the Wailoa Hydro Electric Power Station to the Cunningham Road Zone Substation in Suva.

Patel mentioned that teams were dispatched to remove the fallen tree from the line before it could be re-energized. While efforts were underway to restore power to the affected areas through the Kinoya Power Station, he indicated that full restoration across the Central Division would require some time.

EFL has urged the public to avoid all power lines and has apologized for the unexpected power interruption and any inconvenience caused, stating that it was an incident beyond their control. They seek the cooperation and understanding of their valued customers.
