Tree Trouble: Power Outage Strikes Central Division

A power supply interruption is impacting customers in the Central Division of Viti Levu this afternoon.

Hasmukh Patel, CEO of Energy Fiji Limited (EFL), reported that a tree was being cut in Waibau when it accidentally fell onto a 132,000-volt transmission line. This incident has disrupted the flow of electricity from the Wailoa Hydro Electric Power Station to the Cunningham Road Zone Substation in Suva.

Patel mentioned that crews are currently en route to remove the fallen tree from the transmission line, with plans to restore power following the clearing.

EFL has urged the public to treat all power lines as live and to maintain a safe distance, as any power line could become electrified at any time.

The company expressed regret for the unexpected power disruption and the associated inconvenience, emphasizing that the situation is beyond their control while asking for the understanding and cooperation of their valued customers.
