Tree Trouble: Power Outage Hits Central Viti Levu

A power supply interruption is currently impacting customers in the Central Division of Viti Levu this afternoon.

Hasmukh Patel, CEO of Energy Fiji Limited (EFL), reported that the outage was caused when a tree was cut in Waibau and accidentally fell onto a 132,000-volt transmission line. This incident disrupted the flow of electricity from the Wailoa Hydro Electric Power Station to the Cunningham Road Zone Substation in Suva.

Patel mentioned that teams are en route to remove the fallen tree from the transmission line in order to restore power safely.

EFL has reminded the public to treat every power line as if it is live and to keep a safe distance, as any power line can become electrified at any moment.

The company expressed its apologies for the unplanned power disruption and the inconvenience it has caused, emphasizing that this situation is beyond their control. EFL is asking for the understanding and cooperation of all its valued customers.
