Tree Trouble: Power Disruption Hits Central Viti Levu

A power outage is affecting residents in the Central Division of Viti Levu this afternoon. Hasmukh Patel, CEO of Energy Fiji Limited (EFL), reported that a tree being cut in Waibau accidentally fell onto a 132,000-volt transmission line. This incident has disrupted the power supply from the Wailoa Hydro Electric Power Station to the Cunningham Road Zone Substation in Suva.

Patel stated that teams are en route to remove the tree from the transmission line before restoration efforts commence. EFL has cautioned the public to treat all power lines as potentially live and to maintain a safe distance, as any power line could become electrified unexpectedly.

EFL regrets the unplanned power disruption and the inconveniences it has caused, emphasizing that the situation is outside their control. They appreciate the understanding and cooperation of their valued customers.
