The redevelopment of Ratu Sukuna Park is set to cost the Suva City Council approximately $7 million, which is significantly lower than the initial budget of $13 million. This information was disclosed by the Minister for Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa, in response to an Oral Question posed by Opposition MP Ioane Naivalurua during a recent parliamentary session.
Nalumisa explained that the project aims to transform the park into a modern, multifunctional public space that caters to the needs of Suva’s growing population while adhering to current urban planning principles. He noted that the Suva City Council is funding the project independently.
The Minister also mentioned that Ratu Sukuna Park is anticipated to be inaugurated later this month, marking a substantial investment in Suva’s future through the implementation of a smart city concept.
