Transforming Lives: Government’s Commitment to the iTaukei Community

The Coalition Government is making strides to meet the needs of the iTaukei community, according to Justice Minister Siromi Turaga. He emphasized that various services recognizing the rights and needs of this indigenous group are currently being rolled out.

During his first ministerial visit to Koro Island since taking office, Mr. Turaga noted that initiatives designed for the indigenous community are gradually becoming available. “These services will eventually evolve to meet the changing world,” he stated.

He acknowledged some frustrations over delays in service implementation, explaining that while certain services have been established under the Government, many were not previously available. “I apologize for the delays because it is challenging to address issues from the past 16 years of governance,” he said.

Mr. Turaga highlighted the importance of thorough consultations, reinforcing that the Government operates to serve the people. “We are dedicated to involving the community in every governmental decision, as we hold the vanua and the lotu in high regard.”

His visit also included engagements with government agencies that provide services that have been inaccessible to the residents of Koro.
