Transforming Education: A Call to Action for Fiji’s Head Teachers

The Fiji Head Teachers Association has been urged to devise practical solutions to improve education and support children in Fiji. Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro made these comments at the opening of the 41st Fiji Head Teachers Association Conference, held at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort in Denarau.

Mr. Radrodro emphasized the importance of creating an environment that inspires children and encourages innovative thinking, enabling them to become problem-solving leaders in the future. He encouraged educators to serve as a bridge between traditional teaching methods and innovative practices, highlighting the need to empower students to think independently.

He noted the significance of teamwork in fostering social cohesion, but stressed that developing children’s character to instill a sense of purpose, vision, and direction is the first step in achieving this.

The Heads of Schools were encouraged not to confine their roles to classroom instruction but to extend their efforts by engaging with students and their families in the community.

“Be a transformative leader. The government has invested in you as leaders of your schools, and together, we can cultivate an educational environment where every student can succeed, every teacher can thrive, and every community can prosper,” Mr. Radrodro stated.
