National women’s football coach Angeline Chua has expressed her admiration for three players who have recently secured contracts to play overseas. Adi Litia Bakaniceva and Maria Veronica will be joining Hekari football in Papua New Guinea, while Angeline Rekha has signed with New Zealand’s Western Springs.

Chua highlighted that this achievement marks a significant milestone for both the players and women’s football in Fiji. “These players are trailblazers,” she told Fiji FA Media, emphasizing the dedication and determination required to reach such levels. She hopes their success will motivate more players to pursue similar opportunities.

Bakaniceva and Veronica began their journeys with their new clubs last week, while Rekha, known for her versatility and strong defensive skills, is set to travel on February 1 to start her contract. Her skills have earned her a reputation as one of Fiji’s top defenders.

Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel commented that this accomplishment reflects the improving standards of women’s football in Fiji, which is supported by the Fiji FA’s investments in grassroots initiatives and competitive leagues. He also noted that these contracts highlight the growing recognition of Fijian talent on the international stage. “This is a proud moment for Fijian football,” Patel stated, adding that these successes provide inspiration for the next generation of female athletes.

This development in women’s football not only celebrates individual achievements but also underscores the potential of Fijian players to excel globally. It’s a hopeful sign that investment in sports continues to yield positive outcomes and inspires future generations.
