Superintendent of Police (SP) Ruci Nasemira recently received the Pacific Award at the 2024 Australasian Council of Women and Policing (ACWAP) Awards held in Brisbane, Australia. Currently serving as the Acting Deputy Divisional Police Commander South (DDPC/S), she operates in one of the busiest divisions in the country.

The 25th ACWAP Excellence in Policing Awards, celebrated on a Thursday at Brisbane City Hall, recognized the efforts of individuals, both women and men, who enhance policing and law enforcement, with a particular focus on improving police services for women in communities.

With over 30 years of service, SP Nasemira has built a commendable career that serves as a role model for many. She was chosen to partake in a six-week Comprehensive Security Cooperation Course at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in Hawaii.

During her two-year assignment with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in 2022, she held the position of Chief of Training and Sensitization under the Community Policing Pillar. In this capacity, she oversaw UNMISS-sponsored training across ten states in South Sudan and was also recognized as a UN Selection Assistant and Assessment Team Instructor.

In 2019, SP Nasemira served as the Deputy Chair of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Women’s Advisory Network, supporting regional initiatives to promote women’s contributions to policing in the Pacific. Additionally, in 2018, she was appointed as the Fiji Netball Manager and made history as one of the Fiji Police’s first female Drill Instructors. Prior to her current role as acting DDPC South, she was the Divisional Manager for Community Policing South.
