Superintendent of Police (SP) Ruci Nasemira received the Pacific Award at the 2024 Australasian Council of Women and Policing (ACWAP) Awards, which took place in Brisbane, Australia. SP Nasemira is currently serving as the Acting Deputy Divisional Police Commander South (DDPC/S), overseeing one of the country’s most active operational divisions.
The 25th ACWAP Excellence in Policing Awards were hosted at Brisbane City Hall, celebrating the accomplishments of both women and men committed to enhancing policing and law enforcement while improving services for women in communities.
With a policing career spanning over 30 years, SP Nasemira has become a role model for many, accumulating numerous achievements throughout her service. She has recently been invited to participate in a six-week Comprehensive Security Cooperation Course at the esteemed Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in Hawaii.
During her two-year deployment with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan in 2022, she served as Chief of Training and Sensitization under the Community Policing Pillar, where she focused on conducting training across ten states in the country. She was also re-accredited as a UN Selection Assistant and Assessment Team Instructor.
In 2019, SP Nasemira took on the role of Deputy Chair of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Women’s Advisory Network, where she supported initiatives to elevate the role of women in policing in the Pacific region. She was appointed Fiji Netball Manager in 2018 and was among the first female Drill Instructors in the Fiji Police Force. Before her current role as acting DDPC South, she was the Divisional Manager of Community Policing South.
