Superintendent of Police (SP) Ruci Nasemira received the Pacific Award at the 2024 Australasian Council of Women and Policing (ACWAP) Awards held in Brisbane, Australia. Currently, she serves as the Acting Deputy Divisional Police Commander South (DDPC/S), a role within one of the country’s busiest operational divisions.
The 25th ACWAP Excellence in Policing Awards took place on Thursday at Brisbane City Hall, honoring the contributions of both women and men who are working to enhance policing and law enforcement services, particularly for women in communities.
SP Nasemira’s extensive policing career, spanning over 30 years, has inspired many. She was chosen to participate in a six-week Comprehensive Security Cooperation Course at the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies in Hawaii.
During her two-year assignment with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in 2022, she served as Chief of Training and Sensitization under the Community Policing Pillar. In that role, she was responsible for overseeing UNMISS-affiliated training across ten states in South Sudan and was re-accredited as a UN Selection Assistant and Assessment Team Instructor.
In 2019, SP Nasemira was appointed Deputy Chair of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police Women’s Advisory Network, supporting efforts to increase women’s involvement in policing across the Pacific region. She also managed the Fiji Netball team in 2018 and was among the first female Drill Instructors for the Fiji Police. Before taking on her current role, she served as the Divisional Manager for Community Policing South.
