The Ministry of Health is carrying out a review following the death of a 23-year-old individual after a tooth extraction at the Taveuni Dental Clinic. Health Minister Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu explained that the evaluation seeks to examine the procedures and practices that were involved in the extraction to understand what may have contributed to the tragic outcome. He mentioned that updates will be shared as the evaluation moves forward.
Dr. Lalabalavu noted that an investigation would be initiated only if there are complaints lodged. He stated that he has yet to receive any complaints regarding this incident. “At this point in time, we have not yet received any complaint,” he said. The family of the deceased was reportedly too overwhelmed to comment to the media.
