The National Occupational Health and Safety Services (NOHSS) in Fiji is conducting an investigation into the tragic drowning of a Japanese national, aged 50, who died while snorkeling near the Fiji Hideaway Resort in Sigatoka earlier this month. The incident occurred on November 4 at around 8 am when the visitor was swimming alone.
Agni Deo Singh, the Minister for Employment, confirmed that preliminary investigations suggest the individual drowned while engaging in the activity. The NOHSS is focused on determining if the resort had adequate systems and protocols in place for guests, including supervision levels for activities and emergency response measures.
