A tragic incident early yesterday morning claimed the life of a man in his 30s on local roads. The accident took place near the Nasinu road junction around 3 a.m. as the victim was driving towards Suva when another vehicle, also driven by a man in his 30s, collided with his car.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, Director of Traffic, has stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the details surrounding the collision. He urged drivers to remain vigilant and alert, emphasizing the importance of road safety.
“Road safety stakeholders constantly remind all road users about the need for caution and responsible behavior on the roads. However, it is disheartening to witness that many are not taking these advisories seriously, as reflected in the daily traffic violations,” Divuana remarked. He stressed that complacency can lead to tragic accidents, resulting in the loss of lives.
Divuana encouraged all road users to adopt a more mindful approach for their safety, particularly as the festive season approaches, highlighting that adherence to road rules is paramount.
To date, the road death toll stands at 46, a notable decrease from 68 fatalities reported during the same period last year.
This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of road safety, especially as we move into busier times of the year. By remaining vigilant and following traffic regulations, we can work together to prevent further tragedies on our roads.
This unfortunate event underscores the ongoing need for heightened awareness and responsible driving behavior amongst all road users. As the community reflects on this loss, there is hope that it will inspire a renewed commitment to safety, ultimately resulting in fewer accidents and saved lives.
