A man in his 30s tragically lost his life in a motor vehicle accident in Nasinu early this morning. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the collision occurred near the Nasinu road junction shortly after 3 a.m. The victim was driving towards Suva when another vehicle, operated by a fellow driver also in his 30s, traveling in the opposite direction collided with him.
Emergency responders swiftly transported the victim to Colonial War Memorial Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
In light of this tragedy, the Director of Traffic urged all drivers to exercise heightened caution on the roads. He emphasized that stakeholders in road safety are continuously advocating for responsible road behavior. Despite these efforts, there remains a concerning level of disregard for safety advisories, as shown by the high number of daily traffic violations.
He warned that complacency can lead to fatal accidents and implored all road users to adopt a proactive mindset regarding their safety. As the festive season approaches, adhering to road rules becomes even more crucial to ensure a safe and enjoyable time for everyone.
Notably, the current road death toll stands at 46, a significant decrease from 68 during the same period last year, reflecting potential improvements in road safety awareness.
In summary, this incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to remain vigilant and responsible to prevent further tragedies.
By sharing this message, communities can work together to promote safety on the roads, fostering a culture of caution and responsibility that can ultimately save lives.
