A tragic motor vehicle accident in Nasinu has claimed the life of a man in his 30s this morning. The incident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. near the Nasinu road junction, when the victim, who was driving towards Suva, collided with another vehicle driven by a fellow man also in his 30s traveling in the opposite direction.

Despite being rushed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, the victim was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival. Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic, has confirmed that investigations are underway to ascertain the details surrounding the incident.

SSP Divuana emphasized the need for heightened vigilance among drivers, highlighting that road safety stakeholders consistently implore all road users to engage in safe driving practices. Unfortunately, traffic data indicates that many individuals continue to disregard crucial safety advisories.

“Complacency leads to accidents and often results in the tragic loss of lives. We urge all road users to adopt a change of mindset for their own safety. As the festive season approaches, it is vital that everyone takes road rules seriously to ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration,” Divuana stated.

It is worth noting that the current road death toll stands at 46, which is a decrease compared to 68 fatalities recorded during the same period last year, suggesting that ongoing awareness efforts may be having a positive impact.

In summary, while this incident is a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of road safety, the overall trend in road fatalities shows hope that continued educational efforts could further reduce these tragic occurrences in the future.
