Retired bus driver Muniappa Naidu is grappling with the recent loss of his wife, Visha Latchmi, who tragically died in a car accident. The incident occurred yesterday morning when Ms. Latchmi, who had been driving a taxi for the past two years, lost control of her vehicle on M.N. Naidu Road in Lautoka, causing it to crash into a tree.
Mr. Naidu recalled that it was unusual for his wife to wake him up before heading out for work, as she typically allowed him to sleep in. “She woke me to say that she was going and for me to look after the house,” he shared. “Little did I know those would be her last words. She has been my wife for the last 25 years.”
He emphasized the profound impact his wife had on their lives, stating, “She was a great woman, and I loved her very much. Through her earnings, we managed to survive. We were also in the process of extending our home, which she played a huge role in. Now, that is on hold.”
Following the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana provided details, mentioning that the accident happened shortly after 8 AM. Despite being rushed to Lautoka Hospital, Ms. Latchmi succumbed to her injuries. A post-mortem examination is set to ascertain the exact cause of her death.
She is survived by her husband, two children, and a grandchild. Funeral arrangements are being discussed with her family, with services likely to take place on Saturday.
