Kaminieli Varo, a 32-year-old father of five, was laid to rest last Friday in his village of Navoci, Nadi. Tragically, he drowned earlier this month in the Murrumbidgee River near Yanco, New South Wales, Australia. His body was discovered several days later.

Kaminieli had moved to Australia in 2022 under the National Employment Centre (NEC) Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme, where he was set to fulfill a four-year work contract, which was expected to conclude next year. His wife, Mere Dawai, shared that he was looking forward to returning home in time for Christmas to celebrate with their family.

At his funeral, friends and family members gathered to pay their respects and expressed their gratitude towards those who helped in the search for his body. A workmate delivered a heartfelt eulogy, highlighting Kaminieli as a devoted family man who worked tirelessly to support his loved ones.

He is survived by his wife and their five children, leaving a profound impact on those who knew him and emphasizing the importance of community support in times of tragedy.

This story highlights the sense of community that surrounds such losses and the shared grief of those who come together to remember a life dedicated to family and hard work. While the tragedy is heartbreaking, it also showcases the loving memory of a man who will be cherished by his family and friends.
