Kaminieli Varo, a 32-year-old father of five, was laid to rest in his village of Navoci, Nadi, last Friday. Tragically, Mr. Varo drowned in New South Wales, Australia, earlier this month while at the Murrumbidgee River near Yanco. His body was discovered a few days after the incident.
Having relocated to Australia in 2022 through the National Employment Centre (NEC) Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme, he was on a four-year work contract, set to conclude next year. His wife, Mere Dawai, shared that he was looking forward to returning home in time for Christmas to be with their family.
Friends and family gathered to pay tribute and express their sorrow, as well as their gratitude toward the workmates and friends who participated in the search efforts to recover his body. During the memorial, a close colleague described Mr. Varo as a devoted family man, emphasizing his dedication to providing for his loved ones.
Kaminieli Varo leaves behind his wife and five children, who will continue to cherish his memory and the love he bestowed upon them.
This heartbreaking event highlights the importance of community and support during difficult times, as family and friends come together to honor the life of a devoted husband and father. Even in sorrow, the legacy of love and hard work lives on through his children and the memories they carry forward.
