A mother of four is devastated after her son drowned at Natadola Beach on the Coral Coast this past Sunday. The victim, Rihan Ali, was a 15-year-old Year 11 student at Nadi Muslim College.
His mother, Imrana Ali, expressed her heartbreak, stating, “My world is shattered into pieces because my son whom I loved dearly has left me and gone too soon.” The family had gone to the beach for a picnic around midday when the tragic event occurred.
Rihan’s father, Imran Ali, described his son as well-behaved and an outstanding student, saying he was actively involved in religious activities at the Mulomulo mosque. Mr. Ali noted that Rihan rarely missed school and eagerly anticipated his classes and friends. He was known for his respect towards his elders and had received recognition for embodying strong religious values at school.
Mrs. Ali mentioned that she would have to adjust to preparing two school lunches instead of three. She recalled that Rihan had insisted on going for the picnic that morning, and although she had concerns about the weather, she ultimately agreed to go since he was her second youngest child and school was set to start soon.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that the incident occurred while the victim was with his family for the picnic. Rihan’s funeral took place yesterday at the Mulomulo Muslim Cemetery.
