A tragic incident occurred just days before a 13-year-old boy, Mosese Vulavula, was set to graduate from Nausori Primary School. Mosese was riding with his father in a vehicle when a truck, reportedly out of control and driven by a 21-year-old, collided with them on Princes Rd in Tacirua on Monday afternoon. His mother was also in the car at the time of the accident.
Iliesa Vulavula, Mosese’s father, recounted that they were on their way home after picking up another child when the accident happened, exacerbated by heavy rain. Suliana Vulavula, his mother, expressed her heartbreak over the loss of her son, who was known for being quiet and reserved compared to his siblings. She reflected on the painful irony of preparing for his graduation celebration, mentioning that they had already taken fabric to be made into a graduation outfit.
In her emotional statement, Suliana shared the depth of her grief, while also conveying gratitude to God for her son’s life, acknowledging that he has moved on to a better place. Meanwhile, Mr. Vulavula urged other drivers to prioritize road safety, emphasizing the fragility of life and the irreversible nature of their loss. He poignantly reminded the truck driver that Mosese cannot be brought back.
This tragic event serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety and the impact that reckless driving can have on families. It also highlights the love and dreams parents hold for their children, which can be shattered in an instant.
Although this is a moment of profound sadness, it is important for the community to unite in the call for safer roads, potentially preventing similar tragedies in the future. The Vulavula family’s pain underscores the need for increased awareness and responsibility among drivers to protect lives.
