Tragic Farewell: Retired Driver Grieves Unexpected Loss of His Wife

Muniappa Naidu, a retired bus driver, is grappling with the recent death of his wife, Visha Latchmi, who passed away tragically after losing control of her vehicle. The accident occurred yesterday morning on M.N. Naidu Road in Lautoka when her vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree.

Mr. Naidu remarked on the unusual nature of his wife’s morning routine, noting that she typically allowed him to sleep in. “She woke me to say that she was going and for me to look after the house,” he said, reflecting earnestly on her last words. They had been married for 25 years.

“I am not well these days, and this morning she startled me when she woke me up. Normally, she just lets me sleep in,” he shared. Mr. Naidu described Latchmi as a remarkable woman who was vital to their family’s sustenance. “Through her earnings, we managed to survive. We were also in the process of extending our home, which she played a huge role in. Now, that is on hold,” he added.

Mrs. Latchmi had been a taxi driver for two years. Mr. Naidu plans to discuss funeral arrangements with her family, which are expected to take place on Saturday.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, Ms. Latchmi lost control of her vehicle shortly after 8 a.m. and was transported to Lautoka Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. A post-mortem examination is set to be conducted to determine the exact cause of her death.

She is survived by her husband, two children, and a grandchild.
