A tragic incident occurred at Natadola Beach on Sunday, where a mother of four lost her son to drowning. Rihan Ali, a 15-year-old Year 11 student from Nadi Muslim College, was enjoying a family picnic when the unexpected tragedy struck around midday.
His mother, Imrana Ali, expressed her heartbreak, stating that her world has fallen apart following the loss of her beloved son. Rihan’s father, Imran Ali, remembered his son as a well-behaved, bright student who actively participated in religious activities at the Mulomulo mosque. He shared that Rihan was consistent in attending school and always looked forward to seeing his friends.
Imran highlighted Rihan’s respectful nature towards elders and noted that he received awards for demonstrating strong religious values at school. Imrana added that she now faces the difficult task of preparing two school lunches instead of three, after Rihan insisted on attending the picnic that morning despite her concerns about the weather.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed that Rihan was with his family at Natadola for the picnic when the incident happened. Rihan’s funeral took place yesterday at the Mulomulo Muslim Cemetery.
