Families and friends are heartbroken following the tragic passing of 34-year-old Shalvin Prakash, who lost his life in a car accident in Nasinu on Saturday. His childhood friend, Shimeon Sajiv Raj, shared how they had just celebrated Diwali together just hours before the incident at their home in Tuirara, Makoi.

Raj reminisced about their 20-year tradition of celebrating Diwali side by side. Shalvin had been spending time with his colleagues before heading home to join the festivities with his friends. Unfortunately, a few hours later, they received a distressing call about Shalvin’s involvement in an accident.

Initially, Raj expressed optimism, hoping that Shalvin’s condition was not serious. However, after arriving at the scene and seeing the condition of the wrecked vehicle, their hopes quickly faded. Raj’s heartbreak was palpable as he recounted the moment he was asked to identify Shalvin’s body.

With Shalvin’s family residing in the USA, he often spent time with friends who became like family to him. Just two days before his untimely death, Shalvin had purchased a new car, which he had excitedly referred to as a Diwali gift to himself, indicating plans for a garage to house it.

Reflecting on his friend, Raj described Shalvin as kind-hearted, humble, and full of life, adding that he will deeply miss the regular calls simply to share a laugh.

This tragic loss serves as a reminder of the fleeting nature of life and the importance of cherishing moments spent with loved ones. As the community mourns, it also highlights the strong bonds of friendship that can help bring comfort during such difficult times.

Overall, while the incident casts a shadow on the celebration of Diwali, it also underscores the spirit of togetherness in mourning and support that will help Shalvin’s friends and family navigate this challenging time.
