Preliminary investigations into the death of an apprentice at Energy Fiji Ltd (EFL) have been completed, according to Employment Minister Agni Deo Singh.

Mr. Singh noted that he has received a progress report from the staff conducting the investigation. He mentioned that a report was promptly received from EFL following the accident.

In his statements, Mr. Singh confirmed that they have collected statements from the supervisor, a supervising officer, and other workers present at the scene when the incident occurred. “It’s clear that he died of electrocution; we were just waiting for the post-mortem report,” he said.

However, Mr. Singh pointed out that it remains unclear whether the apprentice was authorized to perform the task he was doing at the time of the accident, highlighting the need for further clarification on that matter.

“We are yet to investigate fully and gather statements from various supervisory and management personnel. We have lost a very young life,” he added.

Mr. Singh also visited the apprentice’s family to offer condolences. The tragic incident took place earlier this month at the workplace.
