A man has died after reportedly drowning while diving for freshwater mussels with his family in the Nakadi River in Baulevu yesterday afternoon. The 58-year-old was initially reported missing, prompting a search that ultimately led to the discovery of his body floating a short distance downstream. Authorities stated that attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, and his remains were taken to the Nausori Health Centre.

In a separate incident, a three-year-old boy was found floating in the Totogo Creek in Levuka. A 14-year-old student made the grim discovery just a few meters from the child’s home. The boy’s body is currently being kept at the mortuary at Levuka Hospital. Investigations are ongoing into both drowning incidents.
