Kaminieli Varo, a 32-year-old father of five, was laid to rest in his hometown of Navoci, Nadi last Friday. Tragically, Varo drowned earlier this month in the Murrumbidgee River near Yanco, New South Wales, Australia. His body was discovered a few days later.

In 2022, Varo relocated to Australia under the National Employment Centre’s Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme. He had a four-year contract that was set to conclude next year. His wife, Mere Dawai, shared that he was looking forward to returning home in time to celebrate Christmas with his family.

During a heartfelt farewell, friends and family gathered to honor Varo’s memory. The family expressed their gratitude to his colleagues and friends who participated in the search efforts to locate him. A workmate delivered a eulogy that reflected on Varo’s dedication as a family man who worked tirelessly to provide for his loved ones.

He is survived by his wife and five children, leaving behind a legacy of love and commitment to his family.

This tragic event underscores the importance of community support, as demonstrated by the collective effort of friends and colleagues during this difficult time. While the loss is profound, the outpouring of love and remembrance showcases the impact Varo had on those around him.
