A tragedy struck in Galoa village as a one-year-old child became the latest victim of drowning in the country. On October 29th, the child’s body was discovered floating near the shoreline, and despite efforts to revive him, they were unfortunately unsuccessful.
It has been reported that the child was with an older sibling at the time and is believed to have wandered out to sea, leading to this heartbreaking incident. The police are actively investigating the case, with a focus on any potential negligence that may have occurred.
In light of this tragedy, the Fiji Police Force is imploring parents and guardians to maintain vigilant supervision of young children at all times, highlighting the critical importance of safety to prevent such devastating incidents.
As the drowning death toll currently stands at 46, slightly lower than the 47 recorded during the same timeframe last year, there is hope that increased awareness and preventative measures will lead to a decline in these incidents moving forward.
It is vital to remember that while these incidents are tragic, they can serve as important reminders of the need for constant vigilance around water, encouraging communities to come together to prioritize the safety of their most vulnerable members.
