Kaminieli Varo, a 32-year-old father of five, was laid to rest in his home village of Navoci, Nadi last Friday. His tragic passing occurred earlier this month when he drowned in New South Wales, Australia, at the Murrumbidgee River near Yanco. His body was recovered days later.

Varo had relocated to Australia in 2022 under the National Employment Centre (NEC) Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme, where he had a four-year contract set to conclude next year. His wife, Mere Dawai, shared that he was expected to return home in time for Christmas to celebrate with their family.

Friends and family gathered to pay their final respects, expressing gratitude to the workmates and friends who aided in the search for his body. A work colleague, during the eulogy, spoke fondly of Varo as a dedicated family man who worked tirelessly to support his loved ones.

He is survived by his wife and their five children, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and devotion to family.

This tragic event serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing loved ones. The community’s support for the grieving family highlights the strong bonds among families and friends, illustrating that even in loss, there can be unity and love.
