Spread the love

Kaminieli Varo, a 32-year-old father of five, was laid to rest in his hometown of Navoci, Nadi, last Friday after a tragic drowning incident in New South Wales, Australia. Varo’s body was discovered earlier this month in the Murrumbidgee River near Yanco, just days after he drowned.

Having relocated to Australia in 2022 under the National Employment Centre’s Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme, Varo was engaged in a four-year contract that he was set to complete next year. His wife, Mere Dawai, expressed her sorrow, noting that he was expected to return home in time for Christmas celebrations with their family.

During the funeral, family and friends gathered to pay their last respects, expressing gratitude to his work colleagues and friends who participated in the search effort to find him. Varo’s workmate recalled him as a devoted family man who worked tirelessly to provide for his loved ones. He is survived by his wife and their five children.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the impact of community. Families often face challenges when they are separated due to work, and Varo’s story highlights the sacrifices many make for the love and support of their families. As the community comes together in mourning, there is hope for healing and remembrance of the joyful moments shared with Kaminieli Varo.
