Tragic Discovery in Cuvu River: Community Mourns Loss

Residents of Newtown, Cuvu, Nadroga, are reeling after the discovery of a community member’s body floating in the Cuvu River yesterday.

The body was identified as that of Ravnit Dass, a 32-year-old mechanic.

Two farmers working on their nearby plantations found the body.

Rattan Kumar, Mr. Dass’s 66-year-old father, mentioned that the last time they spoke was on Monday.

“He came home on Monday night around 7 p.m., dropped his tools, and said he was heading to a friend’s house,” Mr. Kumar said. “That was the last time I heard from him until his body was discovered today.”

Nadroga Navosa Advisory Council chairman Subrail Narayan expressed the community’s grief.

“He used to fix my vehicle. He was smart, hardworking, and had a good heart,” Mr. Narayan said.

Police spokesperson Wame Bautolu stated that police were informed around midday.

“Police managed to identify the deceased male, and further details will be provided later. The investigation is ongoing,” he said.

Funeral arrangements will be made following the post-mortem examination.
