An 80-year-old man tragically lost his life in a car accident in Wainadoi, Navua, after two vehicles collided. The incident happened when both drivers attempted to overtake at the same time, resulting in the vehicles veering off the road and landing in a ditch.
The man, a resident of Suva, was quickly taken to Navua Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries there. The other driver involved is reported to be in stable condition.
This sad event has contributed to the national road death toll, which currently stands at 48, reflecting a significant decrease compared to 78 fatalities during the same timeframe last year.
While this incident is a stark reminder of the dangers on the road, it also highlights the need for increased awareness and caution when driving, particularly regarding overtaking maneuvers. Efforts to promote safer driving practices could continue to help reduce the road death toll further in the future.
