A man in his 30s has been charged in connection with the death of a one-year-old child in Cunningham last week. Medical officials notified the Totogo Police last Thursday after the child was pronounced dead at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.
The case was forwarded to law enforcement due to visible injuries on the child, which were believed to be the result of an assault. According to the police, investigations revealed that the man, who is the defacto partner of the child’s mother, had a reported history of abusive behavior.
Additionally, during the inquiries it was found that the accused allegedly assaulted the victim’s three-year-old brother, who was discovered at the home with visible injuries. Following consultations with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the man was formally charged with one count of murder, one count of assault causing actual bodily harm, and one count of an act intended to cause grievous harm. He is scheduled to appear in the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
