A man in his 30s has been charged in connection with the death of a one-year-old child in Cunningham last week.
Last Thursday, medical officials informed the Totogo Police about a case involving a child who had been pronounced dead at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital. The police were alerted because the victim had noticeable injuries that appeared to be the result of an assault.
During the investigation, authorities discovered that the accused, who is the partner of the victim’s mother, had a reported history of abusive behavior. Further inquiries also indicated that the accused had allegedly assaulted the victim’s three-year-old brother, who was found at the residence with visible injuries.
Following consultations with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the accused was formally charged with one count of murder, one count of assault causing actual bodily harm, and one count of an act intended to cause grievous harm.
He is scheduled to appear at the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
