A man in his 30s has been charged in connection with the alleged death of a one-year-old child in Cunningham last week.
On Thursday, medical personnel notified the Totogo Police about a case involving a child who was declared dead at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital. The police were alerted because the victim showed visible injuries that appeared to result from an assault.
During the investigation, authorities uncovered that the accused, who is the de facto partner of the victim’s mother, allegedly had a history of abusive behavior. Additional inquiries indicated that he had also reportedly assaulted the victim’s three-year-old brother, who was found at the home with noticeable injuries.
As a result of the investigation, police consulted with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, leading to the man being formally charged with one count of murder, one count of assault causing actual bodily harm, and one count of an act intended to cause grievous harm.
He is scheduled to appear in the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
