Seventeen students from Naitasiri Secondary School who were involved in an accident on Monday will be granted a compassionate pass, pending necessary reports and recommendations from the Sub Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) Naitasiri and the Head of School. This confirmation was made by the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, the accident occurred when the vehicle veered off the road due to the driver’s loss of control. The incident took place at the Saumakia Junction in Navuniyasi Village, Naitasiri, and those injured were promptly taken to Vunidawa Hospital for treatment.
Minister Radrodro noted that the specifics regarding the probable cause of the accident cannot be disclosed at this time, as investigations by the police are ongoing. He emphasized that the compassionate pass for the affected students will come into effect once the requisite reports are received.
In addition, Mr. Radrodro highlighted that students will be encouraged to submit claims to the Accident Compensation Commission Fiji (ACCF). He stated that the Head of School will assist affected students, parents, and guardians in completing and lodging these claims based on the findings from the police and medical reports.
The Minister urged all involved, including parents, guardians, teachers, and students, to stay informed and take proactive measures in prioritizing safety to prevent similar events in the future.
