A man in his 30s has been charged in connection with the death of a one-year-old child in Cunningham last week. Medical officials notified the Totogo Police last Thursday after the child was pronounced dead at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital. The police became involved because the victim showed visible injuries consistent with an assault.
During the investigation, authorities uncovered that the accused, who is the de facto partner of the child’s mother, reportedly had a history of abusive behavior. Further inquiries indicated that the accused had also allegedly assaulted the victim’s three-year-old brother, who was found at the home with visible injuries.
Following consultations with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the man has been formally charged with one count of murder, one count of assault causing actual bodily harm, and one count of an act intended to cause grievous harm. He is scheduled to appear in the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
