A man in his 30s has been charged in relation to the death of a one-year-old child in Cunningham last week. Medical officials notified the Totogo Police last Thursday after the child was pronounced dead at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.
Authorities referred the case to the Police due to visible injuries on the victim that were believed to be the result of an assault. Investigations revealed that the accused, who is the defacto partner of the child’s mother, had a reported history of abusive behavior.
Additionally, further inquiries indicated that the accused had allegedly assaulted the victim’s three-year-old brother, who was found at their home with noticeable injuries. After consulting with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the accused was officially charged with one count of murder, one count of assault causing actual bodily harm, and one count of an act intended to cause grievous harm. He is scheduled to appear in court at the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
