Tomasi Waimuka was devastated after the tragic loss of his son, Aporosa Momo, who is believed to be a victim of a hit-and-run incident on Drasa Avenue, Lautoka early Saturday morning. Momo, 26, was discovered by a passerby who quickly took him to Lautoka Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Mr. Waimuka, who resides in Nasowata Settlement in Navutu, Lautoka, shared that they had just returned from a funeral on Friday. Momo had informed his father that he was heading to a relative’s house later that night. Shortly after midnight, Waimuka was awakened by the alarming news from his nephews about the accident that had left his son severely injured. “I had only wished to see him alive with just a minor injury,” he lamented. When he arrived at the scene, he was heartbroken to find his son’s body covered, unable to even touch him. Momo leaves behind two young children, adding to the pain of this tragic loss.
SSP Mitieli Divuana confirmed that traffic investigators have launched an inquiry into the incident. Additionally, SSP Divuana mentioned another tragic accident that occurred shortly after midnight, resulting in the death of 38-year-old Nadi businessman Ronesh Chand. Mr. Chand lost control of his vehicle while driving towards Nadi, leading to a crash. While he was traveling with three others who were taken to the hospital, Mr. Chand could not be saved, although two passengers remain in stable condition and one has since been discharged.
