A devastating fire in Malawai, Nadi, has left seven family members homeless after their two-storey, seven-bedroom residence, along with their shop and Kava Bar, was completely destroyed. The fire occurred yesterday morning and affected a commercial property that had been owned by Abdul Munaf for over 35 years.
Nazil Nabeel, Mr. Munaf’s son, reported that the shop had closed on Saturday night and the family was asleep when the blaze erupted. The exact cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
“The fire is believed to have originated from the back. My two-bedroom apartment, shop, and Kava Bar were all located downstairs, while our family home with five bedrooms was upstairs,” Mr. Munaf explained. “We couldn’t salvage anything except the clothes on our backs. Right now, we are homeless and unsure of where to go. My parents are staying at a friend’s house.”
He described the emotional toll of the loss. “It was heart-wrenching to see everything we worked so hard for go up in flames,” he remarked.
The estimated damage from the fire is over $100,000. Officials from the National Fire Authority have confirmed that they responded to the incident and are investigating its cause. Police have also stated that an inquiry is underway.
